Our Principal
  • Kymberly Rice, Executive Principal
Principal Rice has been an educator for nearly twenty-five years.  During this time, she has been fortunate to serve students in a variety of capacities.  Principal Rice was a teacher and dean at Newburg Middle School before leaving JCPS to become the first African American Principal in the history of Shelby County Public Schools. Principal Rice served as an administrator there for eight years until becoming an educational recovery leader for the Kentucky Department of Education, where she worked at several low achieving schools throughout the state of Kentucky.  Mrs. Rice comes to Shawnee from Western Middle School for the Arts, where she successfully led the school through the turnaround process.

Principal Rice believes that being a principal is the best job she has ever had.  She enjoys touching the lives of students, families, and teachers on a daily basis.  Principal Rice's mantra for this school year is, "if it doesn't challenge you, it doesn't change you".  Principal Rice is looking forward to making Shawnee one of the top schools in the district.
